Frequently asked questions

Domain Registration

As there are hundreds of different domains available, from .com to .club, the prices can vary hugely. The standard price of traditional top-level domains (TLDs) such as .net and .org can range between GHS 80 and GHS 150, whereas newer TLDs like .site and .club can range between GHS 300 and GHS 450. Find out more about the cost of domain names and how to buy a domain name in our blog.

While .com is one of the original and the most popular TLDs, when picking a top-level domain, it’s important to choose one that reflects your business or personal brand. There are a huge number of generic TLDs and Country Code TLDs that might be perfect for growing your online presence, so it’s worth researching.

It’s easy, just check out our domain pricing tool! Using our handy filter, you can select ‘Sale’ to find our cheapest domains. You can also select ‘Popular’ to see the most sought-after domains, and ‘New’ to view our recently launched domains.

Why not search for .com, .net, .ca, .co.uk and .de domains right now? You may just pick up a bargain…

Yes, you can benefit from great savings on our range of products, from domains to hosting packages. Check out our current deals for all the latest promotions.

When you transfer your domain, the remaining time you had left with your old registrar is automatically included, and the year you register for with Urhitech Web Solution is added on top of this.

Extra renewals can be added after you have transferred.

At the time of domain registration, you decide the number of years you want to register it. Once this time is up, a renewal fee will be charged. If you don’t renew your domain on time, you may be charged a fee, or worse, lose your domain. Here at Urhitech Web Solution, we offer auto-renewal to help you stay on track with your payments.

You can only ‘renew’ domains that are still active, but you can ‘reactivate’ an expired domain for exactly the same price as a renewal. The renewal costs can be found in your Urhitech Web Solution account, and the price will depend on the type of domain purchased.

If your domain has expired, you usually get a grace period of about 30 days to renew it. After that, the Domain Registry will probably charge a redemption fee.

Domain Transfer

People move domains for different reasons. If cost is a concern, they may transfer a domain to a cheaper registrar to take advantage of a low price or the best deals. Sometimes they may just prefer the services another company has on offer. If you’re looking for a cheap domain transfer service that’s fast and safe, choose Urhitech Web Solution- our average pricing for transfers is usually the lower cost of renewing elsewhere.

Domain transfers can take anywhere from 30 minutes to 6 days to complete. The exact time-frame depends on the domain’s TLD and the time required for your current registrar to complete the process.

If you’re looking to switch registrars for any reason, Urhitech Web Solution is the best place to transfer a domain.

If we are talking about generic TLDs (such as .com, .info, .agency, etc.), the remaining time that you have with your current registrar will not be lost, it gets carried over. Plus, your domain will be renewed for one year as part of our service.

If you renew your domain name after the domain has expired, you will need to wait 45 days after the expiration date before you can transfer. Otherwise, you may lose the renewal year that you paid for with the previous registrar.

When it comes to country-code extensions (.gh, .de, .uk, .es, etc.), each Registry may set its own rules. Find out if your domain is eligible for transfer now.

When you move your domain, the remaining time you had left with your old registrar is automatically included. The one year you have registered for, is added on top. Extra renewals can be added on after you have transferred.

The exception is UK group TLDs – they are not renewed during transfer and are free to move.

Yes, you can. To do this, unlock the domain with your current Registrar and get the Auth/EPP code from them. Once you have the code, submit the transfer. Please contact our Support Team if you require further assistance.

Shared Hosting is an entry-level type of web hosting where one physical server hosts multiple websites (and often hosts hundreds of users). Since each user gets (“shares”) a section of that individual server where they can host their website files, this keeps costs low. Here users share system resources on-demand, receiving a percentage of databases, disk space, CPU, RAM as well as email and FTP accounts. Other resources include the single MySQL server, Apache server, and mail server. Considered the most cost-effective option, Shared Hosting offers enough resources for any startup, local business, or personal website.

A VPS gives you access to your own personal server, one that’s split up into several virtual servers with allocated resources (disk space and bandwidth) as well as a pre-installed operating system (OS) of your choice. For website owners looking to grow and scale up, a VPS is highly recommended. If your website is too big for Shared Hosting but too small to benefit from Dedicated Server Hosting, a VPS is the right choice for you.

A content delivery network (CDN) is a group of distributed servers around the world to cache (store) and deliver assets (e.g. images and video) to your website visitors faster, no matter their location. In addition to faster website-loading times, a CDN also secures your website, protecting it from DDoS and/or cyber attacks. To take advantage of this web hosting tool, activate CDN by following

Which datacenter locations do you offer?
Your datacenter location all depends on where your website audience is located. For example, let’s say your user base is mostly in the UK. For this reason, we recommend choosing the UK datacenter. If your website audience happens to be spread across Europe or Western Asia, we recommend the EU datacenter, which is located in the Netherlands. If your audience is US-based, the US datacenter location is recommended.

Email Hosting

Just like with web hosting, email hosting is a service provided by a hosting or email company to manage custom domain-based email accounts. Most companies basically rent out space on an email server to customers, then handle email sending and receiving.

Our professional email is, however, more than just a storage space and delivery service. It’s a wide variety of integrations and collaboration features available to boost productivity and team effectiveness.

Email hosting company is usually defined by MX records that point incoming emails to a particular provider — who then processes those messages. In order to find the MX records, it’s necessary to perform an MX lookup. For example, if your email address is yourname@yourdomain.com you need to look up MX records for yourdomain.com.

Free online services such as MXtoolbox will give you a list of MX records that usually offer a provider’s name and corresponding IP addresses records. Sometimes, though, a domain can have a custom domain-based email MX record (e.g. mail.yourdomain.com). If that’s the case, you should also perform a Whois search on one of the IP addresses. That will give you the name of the email provider. Using free online services such as Network Tools is great for this.

In order to get your own business email address, you need to register a domain name with a domain name registrar. Then you need to find an email provider that best suits your needs. You can also try our 60-day professional business email trial when you register a domain name with us

This is usually a question of setting up the right DNS records and activating your mailbox. Your email provider should give you the details you need. If you’ve already registered a domain name and purchased a business email with us. It’s simple to get started. You just need to follow our easy step-by-step guides to set up the right DNS records and then create your Private Email mailbox. Our 24/7 customer support is also ready to answer any questions.

With our hosted email service, you are renting high-quality email servers to manage the communications of your business. Some hosting providers offer free email hosting options with very few features and little to no support. Private Email from URHITECH is a premium email interface that gives you more flexibility and power. Professional web-based email takes place when both incoming and outgoing emails are managed by a cloud mail server, which is one of the reasons so many business owners choose Private Email.

Our Private Email is a collaborative and cloud-based email solution. One feature that our customers truly love is that it is collaboration-oriented. It provides a fresh interface that works across many devices – tablets, desktops, and notebooks – letting users communicate whenever and wherever they want. Private Email has features for creating a public space in shared folders, creating and managing work schedules, and much more. Users can set and control tasks with ease. Everyone in your company can quickly view the availability of colleagues when planning meetings and breakouts. Admins love how easy it is to share data and control who has access to files.

If you are using a third-party email service hosted elsewhere, and would like to switch to premium Private Email, you can easily migrate your old emails to our servers using the Webmail interface. Important messages from your Inbox, Drafts, Sent, and other folders can all be moved to your Urhitech new servers. Whether you are using Outlook, Thunderbird, MacMail, or a web-based email service, we provide helpful instructions to assist with the process

Private Email supports two methods of second-factor authentication, which are among the toughest technologies in the world today.

TOTP (Time-based One-Time Password) is a standardized method that generates a changing temporary code that is unique each time, and expires as soon as the new one has been generated.

U2F (Universal 2nd Factor) is a method that doesn’t require any codes or software applications because it is hardware-based. Authentication happens with the help of a small USB or NFC device like YubiKey that stores your encrypted data.

Reseller Hosting

Reseller Hosting is a type of web hosting that allows you (the reseller) to purchase a hosting provider’s resources wholesale and resell them to your clients for a profit. Ideal for web developers, web design firms or web hosting entrepreneurs, Reseller Hosting allows you to create your own branded hosting service and your own pricing structure.

It’s easy. Simply follow these steps:
  • Select your desired Reseller Hosting plan (Nebula, Galaxy Expert, Universe Pro).
  • In order to set up your reseller storefront, create your website using the CMS of your choice.
  • Decide which type of hosting (Shared, Dedicated, VPS) you’d like to sell to your clients.
  • Set up your WHMCS billing platform to start automating your sales.
  • Finish by attracting potential clients to your website in order to drive sales.
  • When you select your desired plan, you are provided with access via cPanel to your Web Host Manager (WHM) program. This is where you can create and manage all your reseller accounts on the server, which other resellers might occupy. (Keep in mind all created accounts are referred to as “resold accounts.”) Your reseller privileges are determined by your hosting provider, i.e. Urhitech Web Solutions

Web Host Manager (WHM) and Web Host Manager Complete Solution (WHMCS) are completely different. While WHM is a handy program that gives you administrative access to the back end of cPanel, WHMCS automates your billing and support services. If you plan to become a reseller, you need WHMCS to automate the entire process.

Reseller Hosting gives you more control and more resources than Shared Hosting. Think of Reseller Hosting as a parental figure to Shared Hosting. As a reseller, you’re allowed to create and manage multiple Shared Hosting accounts, with the intention of selling them to your clients.

Yes! With Uehitech’s cPanel-based email, you receive 30 to unlimited email accounts as well as Email Authentication and POP3/IMAP features.

    Dedicated Hosting

As many as you like. Although Urhitech does not set any limits on the number of websites you can host, this number depends on a few factors:

    1) the amount of resources provided with your server and the technologies you use,
    2) your bandwidth requirements and
    3) if you have an HTML-designed website or a CMS-based website. Due to the static nature of an HTML-designed website, you can host more websites.

With CMS-based websites, you can host fewer websites due to an increase in RAM and CPU processing.

A hosting control panel is a tool that helps manage your hosting account and is especially useful for non-tech savvy users.

Currently, we offer two control panel options:
    1) cPanel/WHM – available only with the operating systems CentOS or CloudLinux OS.

    2) Interworx – available only with the operating system CentOS. Please note that only User-Responsible Server Management applies.

A Dedicated Server is a physical server where all the resources of one machine are dedicated to a single user. Unlike a Shared Hosting server, where resources are distributed among the respective users, a purchase of a Dedicated Server lets you benefit from every resource available such as RAM, storage, computing power, etc.

By offering you more power and adaptability than other hosting options, renting a Dedicated Server Hosting is the best recommended for those who have a technical background, i.e. those who are comfortable with managing and configuring servers with root access.

Typically, Dedicated Server Hosting is used to benefit the following: high-traffic websites, website and business applications, content streaming, podcasting, machine learning, big data, storage, infrastructure virtualization, and game servers.

When you buy a Dedicated Server, you receive one physical server with the highest level of access as well as complete freedom over its usage. Unlike a Cloud VPS, there is no virtualization layer with a Dedicated Server so all its physical resources are available to you. A Dedicated Server also allows you full management control over its configuration and installations.

Absolutely. If you want to upgrade your current hosting plan with Urhitech or transfer an existing hosting account with a third-party provider, please get in touch with our 24/7 Support. They’ll recommend a dedicated server that best suits your needs and advise you on how to proceed.

There is no additional fee for Dedicated Servers setup. Once you’ve bought your Dedicated Server, our Risk Management specialists check your order and forward it along to our Tech Team. Here, they set up a server with the Linux-based operating system (OS) such as CentOS, Ubuntu, Debian or CloudLinux, as well as other addons of your choice. From there, you’ll receive a Welcome Email with your access details and additional instructions. On average, the dedicated server setup process takes less than 4 hours to complete. The exception is for Dedicated Server customers who choose Complete Server Management, which may take longer. If this is the case, our 24/7 Support Team will personally reach out to you.

    1. User-Responsible
Where you manage and configure your server on your own. This is the default Server Management choice.

    2. Basic
Where core services are monitored by URHITECH with a proactive response if there’s unexpected server failure. Only works with CloudLinux or CentOS and with cPanel already installed.

    3. Complete
Where URHITECH runs and manages everything for you. Here, all technical issues are maintained by our technical experts, letting you focus on your online business. We’ll take care of your server’s settings, including firewall configurations, PHP handling, service interruptions with root cause analysis, and more. Weekly backups to a separate backup server are also offered (up to 200 GB worth of storage).

CentOS or CloudLinux with cPanel is required for Basic and Complete Managements. Complete Management only applies to servers with two or more disks.

Due to technical restrictions, a virtual local area network (VLAN) cannot be set up or installed by you. Please get in touch with our Tech Support Team by submitting a ticket to Hosting (VPS and Dedicated Servers).

A CXS is a tool that performs active scanning of files as they are uploaded to the server. It can detect suspicious files found on the server, as well as prevent most (but not all) exploits from being uploaded or run on the server. Additionally, CXS allows you to perform on-demand scanning of files, directories, and user accounts to detect suspicious exploits, viruses, and resources. CXS license is installed for free for VPS Quasar and Dedicated plans with the Complete Management.

    VPS Hosting

Short for a Virtual Private Server, a VPS refers to the partitioning of a physical server into multiple ones. Since each VPS features its own Operating System (OS), it receives a specific share of resources from one physical server so they are isolated, unable to interfere, and can be separately rebooted.

Choosing a VPS usually implies that you already have some basic server management knowledge and skills. With Urhtech Web Hosting, however, you can rely on us to set up everything for you. If you prefer to do things on your own, please refer to our Knowledgebase article, specifically the VPS section.

VPS Hosting is perfect if you need more resources (compared to Shared Hosting) but prefer not to spend as much (compared to Dedicated Server Hosting). When deciding what VPS Hosting plan is right for you, the following three factors should be considered:
    1) the amount of resources required to host your website, which includes CPU, RAM, and bandwidth;
    2) your OS choice (as some applications may require a specific OS) and
    3) your choice of Server Management (User-Responsible, Basic or Complete). “User-Responsible” means you handle all technical and administrative tasks yourself, “Basic” means you receive a proactive response if unexpected server failure occurs and “Complete” means all technical and administrative tasks related to your VPS are handled for you.

Ideal for web developers, bloggers, resellers, and e-commerce owners, we offer top security, flexibility if and when your business scales in size, independence from neighbors, and full control over your hosting environment. The best part? It’s all at an affordable price.

VPS Hosting answers any issue of scalability and limited resources. A VPS is more powerful than Shared Hosting, where you still technically “share” the server with others but you have more control over how you use the virtual space. A VPS is similar to a Dedicated Server but the resources are allocated between individual websites. Although it’s the most expensive option, Dedicated Server Hosting gives you sole access to all the resources available

    SSL

SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) is one of the standard security protocols used by millions for establishing an encrypted connection between a web browser and a web server while preventing cybercriminals from reading and modifying any transaction done between them such as the transmission of sensitive information like credit card while doing online shopping. It ensures that all the data passed between the web browser and web server remains private and secured.

TLS (Transport Layer Security) the successor protocol and an improved version of SSL (Secure Sockets Layer). It works similar to SSL using encryption for protecting the transmission of data and information.

Moreover, SSL Certificates are one of the digital certificates which prove that the identity of the websites is authenticated and all the information sent to SSL installed website will stay encrypted with the help of SSL/TLS technology.

Whenever a user visits a secured website, an SSL/TLS Certificate installed on it offers identification information regarding its web server and creates an encrypted connection. Furthermore, all of this process is done within a second. Let’s see how does an SSL work?
  • Web browser or server tries to connect with the server of a website secured with an SSL/TLS Certificate and make a request to a web server for identifying themselves.
  • Copy of a web server’s SSL/TLS Certificate is sent to the browser or server.
  • Once the browser/server receives it verifies whether to trust the SSL/TLS Certificate and then sends a message to the web server.
  • The web server sends back an acknowledgment in a digitally signed format for starting an SSL encrypted session.
  • Now, the access is granted to share encrypted data between the web server and the browser/server.
  • Yes. If you have a website, SSL is needed. Earlier, it was okay to have an SSL only for the website which was collecting information from the user. But after Google’s update regarding SSL, it is needed no matter what type of website you have, whether you collect the information or not. Even a simple blog will also display a “Not Secure” if the SSL is not installed on it.

SSL/TLS Certificate installed on the website means it helps to secure the data transferred between the visitor and a website and vice-versa. Though one thing has to be noted that, it doesn’t mean the information on the server is secured, as once the sensitive data reaches the server it’s up to the admin on how to keep it safe. For example, encryption of database.
In other words, HTTPS means HTTP is sent over an SSL encrypted connection which covers GET & POST with other HTTP actions while keeping it safe and unaltered as all the data is passed via an SSL tunnel to the client browser.

Both TLS & SSL are protocols used for sending data over the internet securely. Though there’s a minor difference between them, still TLS and SSL are considered as a different standard. TLS (Transport Layer Security) is an advanced version of SSL (Secure Sockets Layer), which uses stronger encryption algorithms and also has the ability for working on different ports. Furthermore, TLS versions do not work in conjunction with SSL version 3.0.

Put simply, SSL is one of the security protocols used for establishing a secured connection between a web browser and the web server, which ensures users that all the data passed between a web browser and web server remains integral and private.
In other words, SSL certificates are one of the small data files which are digitally bound cryptographic key with an organization’s details. Usually, it is used for securing sensitive transactions over the internet such as transactions made with a credit card or online banking, login credentials and more.

The main reason to use SSL is to encrypt and secure sensitive information sent over the Internet, so only the recipient who is intended can have access to it while making it unreadable to any third-party in-between. As any information sent over internet pass through various computers before reaching its destination server, ultimately making your sent information such as credit card details, login credentials vulnerable to attacks, if it’s not encrypted with an SSL certificate. Additionally, SSL is important because it provides:
  • Authentication: Provides surety that the information is sent to the right server and not any fraudster who is trying to steal data.
  • Trust: Visual trust indicators such as a green bar or a lock icon are displayed on the popular web browsers like Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox, letting your website visitors know about your genuineness.
  • PCI Compliance: Pass the audits and satisfies the requirement of the Payment Card Industry (PCI) standards, which are needed for any website which accepts credit card details.
  • If you own a website these days, it’s a compulsion that you must have an SSL/TLS certificate installed on it. Now, it’s no more like any luxury, but it’s more a necessity. Additionally, some of the benefits you get by installing an SSL/TLS certificate are like:
  • SSL helps in protecting your server-client transactions such as sharing of credit card number while purchasing online by making an encrypted tunnel between the two.
  • SSL helps in providing authentication of the website. It helps in identity verification, which is an important aspect regarding web security.
  • SSL helps in satisfying the requirements of PCI/DSS as a website needs to be PCI compliant to receive online payments. It provides visual trust indicators which help in boosting the trust and confidence of website visitors.
  • SSL helps in establishing non-repudiation with the combination of Encryption, Integrity and Authentication. In other words, SSL makes a secured transaction due to which none of the party, i.e., server or client can say that the communication is coming from someone else.
  • Removes web-browser security warning message “Not Secure.”
